The project was conceived in the mind of our Parish Priest, an idea which he cleverly passed on to his parishioners! The project, based at our Holy Family Church site in Hollinwood, was inspired by Pope Francis' encyclical letter: Laudato Si' of the Holy Father Francis on Care for our Common Home. A meeting was arranged with the Laudato Si project leader at Wardley Hall—namely, Steve Burrows—who has a wealth of knowledge and contacts. He is literally like a whirlwind. He helped us to get up and running.
Work commenced in July 2019, Initially there were two of us and we remain to this day. However over a period of two years we have had 40 volunteers who have dipped in and out as personal circumstances allowed and more people are joining as we emerge from the Pandemic.
We are extremely grateful to everyone for their help no matter how small it may have seemed.
If you would like to be involved with the project, please click the 'Email the Bee Together Team' button above.
We also have our own thriving Bee hives. They have generated a lot of interest and during the season we run free beekeeping sessions. We thank our queen bee, Catherine Charnock, and her son Luke, who give their precious time to keep this initiative buzzing.
This project would not have gone ahead without the support of our long suffering families, who throughout it all have been there to listen to our moans, groans and triumphs. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
This is still very much a work in progress as are all gardens but we have just picked our first beautiful Leeks and the prospects of more produce to come.
We hope very soon to be in a position where people can come and go as they please. Growing their own produce, watching others grow, or just coming for a chat and a cuppa.
We have tables and seats and an area specifically for the children with its own willow dome.
This project would not have been possible without the generous assistance from the following organizations:
